What's My IP

What's My IP is a useful tool that helps you easily find your IP address.

What your IP address is and why it matters

This page shows the public IP address that websites see when you visit them. It is assigned by your internet provider, or by your VPN if you use one, and it is shared by every device on your home or office network.

How to use it

  1. Open the tool; your IP address is detected automatically.
  2. Copy it if you need to share it, for example with support or to allow it in a firewall.
  3. Compare the result with and without your VPN to confirm the VPN is working.

Example

If you connect to a VPN server in another country and this page still shows your provider's address, your traffic is not going through the VPN.

Good to know

  • Your public IP is different from your local IP (usually 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x), which only exists inside your own network.
  • Most home connections have a dynamic IP that can change after a router restart.
  • An address containing colons, such as 2001:db8::1, is an IPv6 address.

Frequently asked questions

Can someone find my home address from my IP?

No. An IP address usually reveals only your provider and an approximate city or region. Only the provider can link it to a subscriber, normally only with a legal request.

Why is my IP different on my phone?

On mobile data your phone uses the mobile operator's network, which gives it a different public IP than your home Wi-Fi.
