How to check if a port is open

The Open Port Checker tries to connect to a specific port on a host from the internet. It shows whether a service on that port can be reached from outside your network, which is useful when setting up a game server, remote access, a web server or a camera.

How to use it

1. Enter the IP address or hostname.
2. Enter the port number, for example 80, 443, 22 or 25565.
3. Run the check and see whether the port is open or closed.

Example

You forward port 25565 on your router for a Minecraft server, but friends cannot join. If this tool reports the port as closed, the cause is the router forwarding, the firewall on your computer, or the server not running.

Good to know

• Common ports: 80 (HTTP), 443 (HTTPS), 22 (SSH), 21 (FTP), 25 and 587 (SMTP), 3389 (Remote Desktop).
• A port only shows as open when a program is actively listening on it. Forwarding a port with nothing running behind it still shows closed.
• Some providers block ports such as 25 or 80 on home connections, and connections behind CGNAT cannot accept incoming connections at all.
