JSON Beautifier

Format and beautify your JSON data.

Format Options

JSON Beautifier

Convert your JSON data into a properly formatted, readable structure with various formatting options.

How to format and read JSON

APIs and config files often deliver JSON as one long line that is hard to read. JSON Beautifier adds indentation and line breaks so nested objects and arrays are easy to follow.

How to use it

  1. Paste your JSON.
  2. Click format.
  3. Read or copy the indented result.

Example

The minified {"user":{"id":7,"roles":["admin","editor"]}} becomes an indented block where you can see at a glance that roles is a list inside the user object.

Good to know

  • JSON requires double quotes around keys and strings. Single quotes are invalid.
  • A comma after the last item is not allowed in JSON, even though JavaScript accepts it.
  • Formatting only adds whitespace, so the result contains exactly the same data as the original.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between beautifying and minifying?

Beautifying adds whitespace for people to read; minifying removes it to make files smaller for machines.

Why can't my JSON be formatted?

It probably contains a syntax error such as a missing comma, single quotes or a trailing comma. The JSON Validator shows where the problem is.
