IP Information

IP Information is a useful tool that allows you to get the information about any IP Address.

How to look up an IP address

IP Information shows public details about an IP address, such as the country and city it is registered to, the provider or organisation that owns it, and its time zone. The data comes from IP geolocation databases.

How to use it

  1. Enter an IPv4 or IPv6 address.
  2. Run the lookup.
  3. Review the location, provider and other fields.

Example

If your server logs show many failed login attempts from one address, a lookup tells you whether it belongs to a hosting company (often automated bots) or a home internet provider.

Good to know

  • Geolocation is approximate. City results are often tens of kilometres off, and mobile or VPN addresses may point somewhere else entirely.
  • Addresses such as 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x and 127.0.0.1 are private or local and have no public location.
  • Use IP to Hostname alongside this tool to see the reverse DNS name of the address.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the location show the wrong city?

Databases map address ranges to where the provider registered them, which is not always where the user is. VPNs and mobile networks make this even less precise.

Is it legal to look up an IP address?

Yes. The information shown is public registration and routing data.
