SSL Checker

Verify SSL Certificate of any website.

SSL Checker

SSL Checker is a useful tool that allows you to check if the SSL Certificate of any website is valid.

How to check an SSL certificate

SSL Checker connects to a website over HTTPS and reads its certificate. It shows who issued the certificate, which domain names it covers and when it expires, so you can catch problems before visitors see a security warning.

How to use it

  1. Enter the domain, for example example.com.
  2. Run the check.
  3. Review the issuer, validity dates and the domain names covered.

Example

If a certificate was issued for example.com only, visitors to www.example.com may get a warning. The list of covered names shows whether the www version is included.

Good to know

  • Most free certificates, such as Let's Encrypt, last 90 days and renew automatically. Check that renewal actually works.
  • An expired certificate makes browsers show a full-page warning that most visitors will not click through.
  • A certificate that is valid but missing its intermediate chain can work on desktop browsers and still fail on some phones and apps.

Frequently asked questions

Is SSL the same as TLS?

TLS is the modern successor to SSL. People still say SSL out of habit, but today's websites use TLS.

Does HTTPS mean a site is safe?

It means the connection is encrypted and the domain was verified. It does not guarantee that the site itself is trustworthy.
